Supporting Multilingual Congregation with Church Video Projection
Dual projection screens at St. Andrew the Apostle |
“We definitely love it!” said the kind staff when
asked how they were enjoying the new church video system at St. Andrew
the Apostle.

The Projects – I. Audio Visual
Systems: St. Andrew the Apostle in Worcester Massachusetts wanted to add video
projection to the Mass. A custom Church
Video Projection system was designed by Power Sound of New England. Two motorized retractable 12-foot projections
screens are the highlight! We integrated the video projector with both cameras and
computers for a variety of kinds of presentations. II. A church sound system upgrade was also done as part of the AV system design and installation
project.
Church Video – The primary goal for
video projection: St. Andrew the Apostle was seeking a way to assist the
multilingual congregation with hymn lyrics. The African Ministry at the parish
has parishioners speaking Swahili, the Burundi language of Rundi, and English.
Hymn translations projected from a computer onto the large format projections
screens answered the call. Now the parish has expanded their use of the system
for English speaking Masses as well. Ideal for displaying church news,
religious imagery, photographs of events, and more; church video systems are a effective addition to extending the
reach of worship.
Beyond the walls – A congregation exists far
beyond the walls of the sanctuary. With live steaming for websites video
projection can deliver Services and Mass anywhere, in real time.
PSNE spoke of the growing
need of houses of worship to better support multilingual congregations, “We
are often called upon to design custom video projection systems for churches
with congregations made up of worshipers speaking many languages. Providing
translations of hymn lyrics and church messages is easier than ever with video
projection.”

Cameras capture Altar activity to project onto screens |
Cameras - We integrated the parish’s existing
cameras into the new audio visual system. This offers the church the ability to
use the church video system by utilizing cameras to record altar activities.
This feature of video projection at churches is ideal for projecting wedding
ceremonies, baptisms and other special altar services onto screens for
large-format viewing. It can always be used to manage overflow attendance in
spaces including community halls, the foyer or narthex, a mother’s room, or
anywhere.
Churches are benefiting
from video systems outside of weekend Masses or Worship Services. Used often
for the presentation of films for religious education or family-friendly
entertainment video projection may be controlled from different chosen
locations at St. Andrew the Apostle including the loft or in the sanctuary from
a windows-based laptop computer, Mac-based ipad or iphone.
Church Sound – As part of the AV
installation PSNE retrofitted the church audio system. A Highlight: New Pro
Bose® speakers, designed for the church environment, offer greatly improved
sound quality and intelligibility.
