A Massachusetts Church Sound Renovation

At St Anthony of Padua Church in Shirley Massachusetts everything sounds much clearer!

Fr. Derosier came to us to design a church sound system that would offer clear, consistent audio throughout the sanctuary. Also important to the parish was the architectural "fit" of the system. We worked together to be sure our design would meet the desires for the interior aesthetics of the church space.
As part of the audio design our crew hand painted all speakers to match the columns to which we would be affixing them. During the sound system installation we also ran raceways where needed to cover any wiring. The result? We are pleased to showcase some photos from the project and to share the sentiments of the the pastor about its outcome...

“The new sound system performs exactly as promised. The installation was very well done and your crew paid careful attention to ensuring its components complemented our church architecture. Having viewed your work at a nearby parish, and listened to the superb quality of the sound reproduction, we were sure we had made the right decision in choosing Power Sound of New England. We were not disappointed."
-Rev. Edmond D. Derosier, St. Anthony of Padua, Shirley, MA

BOSE Panaray speakers mounted on columns face the pews. The multiple speaker drivers in each 4" wide speakers offers even coverage.

The transepts are given sound coverage by smaller complimentary BOSE speakers facing the side pews. By choosing a combination of loudspeakers, designed for worship spaces, for the design, it enabled our crew to install and program the system to accurately reinforce sound in all areas of the sanctuary.

Beautiful from every angle.

Church Sound, Church Video: Were the new age meets history

I. Video Projection Systems: First Baptist Church of Paris in South Paris, Maine wanted to add video projection to their historic church. They were very concerned about maintaining the aesthetics of the space.  A motorized retractable projection screen is a highlight. The way it disappears when the screen is not needed is exactly what they wanted! We integrated the video projector and computer for a variety of kinds of presentations.

II. A church sound system upgrade was also done as part of the AV system design and installation project. A Highlight: New Pro Bose® speakers, designed for the church environment, offer greatly improved sound quality and intelligibility. Speakers were carefully mounted adjacent to window casings and painted to match. The result is the vastly improved sound they needed and the discreet appearance they wanted.

South Paris Maine is a quaint village and First Baptist Church of Paris is an important piece of the fabric of the community. One of the facets of this project that stood out for us was the focus of upgrading technology, not just for the congregation, but also for the community of South Paris.  This is best explained in the words of the Pastor…

"Beautiful sound!"

The quality of sound has truly impressed me; NO comparison to the old system. And the video projection performs beautifully also. You had such sensitive concern for our historic structure. Your crew collaborated with our electrician to preserve visual authenticity. There are some new wires your crew actually had to point out to me— it is just amazing! Even the placement of jacks in the aisles is discreet, so during weddings they won’t show in photographs. I am especially grateful for your approach of “we’re putting it in now” but we will “follow up in a few weeks to ensure you are comfortable with the system.” We have really benefited from this. And, the project came in on budget.

Our new audio visual capabilities allow us the ability to offer our church for local groups’ use for a broader range of community events and concerts. Prior to choosing PSNE we called some other ministers of historic churches and they were very complimentary. This cemented our decision to entrust this project to your company.  - Pastor Mary Beth Caffey, First Baptist Church of Paris

Power Sound of New England.
We all know what an iPad is and what it does; but did you know it can also effectively control and improve your Church Sound System?

Handheld sound control

ipad wireless controll of church music and sound

Using an iPad (and custom software) it is simple to manually control Music Ministry voice and instruments; and to automate the Main Liturgy microphones, or not.And it can all be managed wirelessly from anywhere in the Church.

"Amazing!" We hear this a lot!

Church Sound:
Better church audio has changed the Mass experience, especially for those hard of hearing and many older parishioners. Equipment to improve the sound at this Hartford Connecticut Church shown here include Pro Bose speakers and new lectern microphone. The sound system installation was planned to address the desire for more even sound coverage from the front of the sanctuary to the back. Custom painting and hidden wiring ensure that the church sound is improved without sacrificing the interior aesthetics.

St. Monica Church in Barre Vermont: Complete Sound System Renovation

I would always recommend Power Sound to other parishes.
~ Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau

St. Monica Church in Barre Vermont: Complete Sound System Renovation
Great Church Sound - Affordable Price.

St Monica Church needed better church sound system. Fr. Leo had worked with Power Sound of New England at other parishes where he’d served as pastor. We designed a custom audio system featuring new primary speakers by BOSE. We refurbished their smaller existing speakers for the loft and altar.

“Great Sound is important, but so is the bottom line. We re-cycled equipment by moving the parishes existing speakers to the Mission. Now the sound is vastly improved there also,” said PSNE chief designer and G.M., Troy Jennings.

Features
A hearing impairment system offers earpiece amplification. Discreet, yet effective; the hearing impaired parishioners needing personal amplification have a comfortable solution which is integrated into the parish’s sound system. Another feature popular with new church sound systems is audio recording. The parish may record Services directly to audio disc. This feature is ideal for playback for “shut-ins” or website posting of religious services.

“A very comprehensive system: The new speakers are performing
perfectly and the hearing impairment system offers greatly enhanced sound clarity for those who need it. I have trusted you with A/V projects at many parishes where I have served. Julius and your technical team always do a wonderful job!”
                                ~ Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau

Though this church audio upgrade was designed and installed some time ago, it is a relevant example of of of today's common sound system renovation projects. Many calls come from churches when the sound system they have is failing and congregation members are having challenges hearing the liturgy and the music.

How's your sound?

Two Great Church Audio Systems - St. Roch Parish in Oxford, MA

All custom Church Audio Systems from Power Sound of New England are as beautiful as they are functional. The loudspeakers in this photo are 10 feet tall and emit clear, intelligible sound throughout the sanctuary; yet you can hardly notice them!

This project, pulled from our job archives, is a great example of church sound in multiple parish spaces.

New Parish Hall and Upper Church Sound Systems

St. Roch Parish needed better sound for both the Main Church and the Parish Hall.

Msgr. “Lou” wanted a versatile system that would address sound quality and operational flexibility.
A custom audio system design by Power Sound answered the call.

Right: BOSE® speakers, designed for the needs unique to church audio systems. Custom coloring is ensure aesthetics are considered. Notice the speakers match both wood and wall surfaces.

"Thank you to Msgr. Louis Piermarini and St. Roch Parish for your trust in our work. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide reliable new audio to both the upper church and parish hall".
      ~ Troy D. Jennings, G.M., PSNE

Features
The Main Church Audio has a unique digital audio selector. We can program settings for any number of sound scenarios such as full Church holiday Mass or weekday attendance.  One button changes the setting as needed.

The Parish Hall
Here the church audio system functions separately for meetings, plays or dinners. But, with the turn of a dial its speakers connect to the Main Church System to project Mass to overflow attendance. Both are versatile, effective and easy to operate.

The Parish Hall Audio allows for so many more ways to utilize the space. Audio for plays, meetings, or RCIA Ed. from this system - or connecting to the upper Church sound system - provides audio for overflow attendance.

Recycle, re-utilize, re-purpose
Good equipment can often be re-purposed during av installations. In may churches we are able to re-use upper church speakers in the hall or classroom.

Great Church Sound! Three Pittsfield MA Catholic Churches…

have put their faith in us for professional, effective AV systems this year.
It seems that the word of our trusted Audio Visual Solutions for worship is getting around!

To improve sound at St. Joseph Church, Msgr. Shershanovich chose Power Sound of New England for the design & installation of a new church audio system.  We had already completed a successful sound system renovation project at Sacred Heart, “The Pink Church” in Pittsfield Massachusetts. The pastor there, Rev. James R. Joyce had highly recommended Power Sound of New England to Monsignor who was seeking to solve the issues with the St. Joseph Church’s sound system. I spoke with Rev. Joyce after his project was complete to hear how the parish was enjoying the new quality sound and he was enthusiastic in his praise of the improved audio quality.

“We’re really thrilled! ...For the first time in years the Music Ministry can hear the homily—
they are very happy.”      ~ Rev. James K. Joyce

In addition to custom church sound renovations at Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Church, PSNE was also chosen for a comprehensive audio renovation at St. Mark’s in Pittsfield.

The Project at St. Joseph Church

The goal was to improve the sound quality at St. Joseph Church for the Celebrants and Lectors as well as for choir and music ministry. Some Masses at the church are in English and some in Spanish. We wanted to be sure the sound projection was optimum for Celebrants speaking both Spanish and English, and varied musical elements of the Masses. We understand the nature of multi-lingual church communities and we tailor each audio system design to accommodate each congregation’s unique worship needs.

We analyzed their diverse needs, working closely with the pastor, Msgr. Shershanovich. After a acoustical analysis of the worship space, we designed a custom system to meet their primary goals – to provide clarity for both the Spoken Word and the Music Ministry. "The big challenge has always been building a hybrid to address both", said Power Sound’s design specialist and general manager Troy Jennings. “With our unique understand of worship and experience with the most advanced audio technology we were able to achieve exceptional results; far surpassing the parish’s audio expectations."

In worship space audio renovation projects it is foremost that improved sound intelligibility is essential, but aesthetics in this majestic church mattered also. As part of the sound system we chose BOSE Panaray® speakers, designed especially for church environments. A towering 9 feet tall, yet just 4 inches wide, they are custom-painted to complement the surface to which they are mounted so the only thing noticed is rich, clear sound.

The photo here demonstrates the ease with which the loudspeakers harmonize the environment.

Since the installation the reviews form clergy and congregation have been quite complimentary. How’s the sound in your church?

St. Augustine’s Church on Martha’s Vineyard

Good Shepherd Parish trusts Power Sound of with all their AV needs

The Projects – I. Audio Visual Systems: St. Augustine’s Church on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts needed to replace their church sound. The parish has entrusted Power Sound if New England with the church audio renovations at their two other island churches so naturally, Fr. Michael Nagle called on us again for this project.

II. The other facet of the audiovisual system brings a visual component to the worship. The parish wanted to bring video projection to the Mass as they had done at another island church, Our Lady Star of the Sea. A Church Video Projection System was custom designed to meet their needs.  Two motorized retractable 12-foot projections screens are a beautiful feature. Mounted on wall surface of two colors we then painted to match they blend nicely and have no negative impact on interior aesthetics. Retracted projection screens simply tuck away when not in use. We integrated two video projectors and a camera with their computers for a variety of kinds of presentations. Planning ahead we also did preparation for live video streaming to be introduced in a later phase of the project for the church.

Features of PSNE-designed Church Video Projection:
• Single or dual screen systems tailored to your worship space.
• Eliminate traditional hymn books with on-screen lyrics.
• Live streaming can project to overflow areas, or to your website.
• Present visuals of weddings, christenings and memorials.
• Project Altar activities to Classroom, Hall...anywhere!

“Very Engaging!”
"For pastors: If you’ve never used it  during worship, you don’t know what you missing. Once you’ve used it you can’t imagine what you’d do without it. Video projection enhances participation; everyone is drawn deeper in the experience of the liturgy. Now when we don’t use it, the congregation really misses it!”     ~ Rev. Michael R. Nagle, Martha’s Vineyard

Pro Church Sound Solutions:
• Tailored to individual space acoustics.
• Offers clear, intelligible sound for sanctuary, hall, or classroom.
